Early 2024 marks the start of a free-to-play project as part of our studies at Isart. A world I knew very little about at the time and which I was able to explore in greater depth throughout the project.

Free-to-play

Card Game

Trailer

Cards and emplacement
The game consists of beating enemies using cards.
The cards each have a colour and a series of slots. Using cards of the same colour reinforces their effect, while some cards can only be used in specific slots.

A Roguelike dimension
As you progress, you can add more cards to your deck by selecting them as a reward at the end of a battle or by buying them in the shop.

Free-to-play monetization
As the game is free-to-play, the idea was to introduce a monetisation format to encourage players to play regularly via daily rewards and quests, but also to invest their money via in-game purchases to enhance the gaming experience.

Learnings

Mobile game environment
I was able to explore the specific features of the mobile environment and the free-to-play monetisation format which gave me a better understanding of the general principles of player retention.

Card games mechanics
In the same vein, we looked at how to develop the mechanics of the card game in depth to make it interesting and suitable for the mobile market. Not an easy task, given the limited time available to develop the initial concept.

Working with programmers
This was also one of the first projects we worked on as a group with a team of programmers. It was a new challenge to get organised with so many people and to manage to work at an optimal pace, given the different rhythms of some of the group members' internships.

Main contributions

Ennemy design
During this project, I was mainly responsible for designing the various enemies that the player would encounter and their specifications, particularly with regard to the bosses.

Cards balancing
I also got to take part in the creation of the various cards and mechanics of the game itself, as well as its balancing once it had been polished.
